Wayforward, known most recently for its remastering of the NES “Ducktales” game, has launched a new Kickstarter for “Shantae: Half-Genie Hero.”
This venerable series, which launched on the GameBoy back in the mid-nineties, is known for its platforming and puzzle-solving gameplay. This time Wayforward has its sights set on launching “Shantae” not just on handhelds but on home consoles and PC as well. The Kickstarter allows for donations starting at $1 with just $12 getting you the game, assuming of course that the Kickstarter is funded. As of 9/5 they were at $95,000 on a goal of $400,000 with 29 days to go. The highest tier of donations is at $10,000 with 3 spots available. This tier nets you all the previous rewards available as well as giving you one of 3 factory-sealed copies of the original “Shantae” for the GameBoy Color and an invitation to the wrap party.
The Kickstarter is scheduled to end on October 4th and given that it is almost 1/4 of the way to its goal on the first day, full funding seems very likely for “Shantae: Half-Genie Hero.” The estimated release date, if funding is secured, is October 2014.
