Gearbox Software, know for their work on the Borderlands series, has purchased one of the franchises left on the table after THQ’s demise. According to a blog post, Gear Box Chief Creative officer Brian Martel has “great love and respect” for the Homeworld franchise and “personally spearheaded the acquisition.”
What does Gearbox plan to do with the series? Well, according to the announcement post, they plan to “preserve and assemble the purest form of the original acclaimed and beloved games, Homeworld and Homeworld 2, with the intent of making them accessible on today’s leading digital platforms.”
Originally developed by Relic Entertainment, The Homeworld franchise has been up for sale since Sega purchased Relic during an earlier round of THQ bankruptcy auctions.
