Disney closes LucasArts, cancels Star Wars 1313

LucasArts ClosedWhere you hoping Disney’s purchase of LucasArts would improve the quality of their Star Wars and Indiana Jones games? Well, you seem to be out of luck. Disney has decided to shutter the once great(read: back in the 90’s) studio, and with it, has confirmed the rumors that Star Wars 1313 and Star Wars: First Assault had been canceled. Disney’s official statement reads:

“After evaluating our position in the games market, we’ve decided to shift LucasArts from an internal development to a licensing model, minimizing the company’s risk while achieving a broader portfolio of quality Star Wars games. As a result of this change, we’ve had layoffs across the organization. We are incredibly appreciative and proud of the talented teams who have been developing our new titles.”

According to Kotaku, upwards of 150 people were laid off due to the studio’s shift to a “licensing model.”
