EA CEO John Riccitiello has announced his decision to step down from the company effective March 30th. This comes on the heels of the SimCity debacle where users were unable to even log into the service and game features were disabled or removed in order to allow people to play. The announcement is also accompanied by a note, via Forbes, that the company’s earnings forecast is going to be lower than expected. In the press release for the announcement, Riccitiello says his departure is due to the financials and not the recent SimCity launch. In the meantime, longtime EA board member Larry Probst will take over the CEO position temporarily while the search is on for a new CEO.
