For those of you with a sadistic side, especially when it comes to gaming, you’ll be glad to hear that one of this generation’s most challenging and rewarding games is getting DLC.Indeed, Dark Souls Artorias of the Abyss is being released for Xbox 360 and PS3 October 23rd in North America, and October 24th in Europe and Australasia, and, judging by what we’ve seen with the newly-released PC version which had the content included, the DLC will definitely be worth checking out.
What you’ll find in the new content is a very challenging new area, accessed by a portal down by the Darkroot Garden. The boss lineup is definitely a daunting undertaking, but it also amplifies what we’ve always loved about the game from the start: overcoming seemingly insurmountable odds and the irreplaceable rush and thrill of victory after you slay some massive, horrible abomination. Of course there are also new items, new NPCs, a further delving into the game’s vague and ambiguous (though utterly interesting) lore, and, our favorite, new enemies. These enemies comprise one of the hardest sets in the entire game, and, consequently, make this DLC accessible (even by Dark Souls standards) only to late-game players with enough gear and enough skill to get through the high challenge. Aside from the conventional content, there is also a new multiplayer matchmaking system. This will rely entirely on the community to support it and actually make it work, but here’s hoping.
