World of Warcraft: Cataclysm Review

The world of Azeroth has changed forever.

The newest World of Warcraft (WoW) expansion came out earlier this week and although the world has been shattered two weeks allowing players to discover the destruction Deathwing has unleashed upon Azeroth as well as learning the new talent tree and class specializations.

Cataclysm has changed the world of Azeroth forever and all areas were affected by the Cataclysm in their own way whether it be a physical change or a quest line change. These changes will have players yet again explore the world for although players have returned to the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor they may find that when they left it to fight the Lich King in Northrend or leaving Azeroth all together, not everything will be as they remember.

There are also new areas added to the Eastern Kingdom and Kalimdor, such as Mount Hyjal and Vashj’ir. Vashj’ir is probably one of the most notable of the new areas in my opinion for the entire area is completely underwater. The Alliance and Horde have discovered a new island and are fighting for control of it. The island will benefit the Alliance and Horde in their own way. On the way to the island players take a boat only to become halted by a kraken. After your boat sinks you are saved and begin your underwater adventures.

Two new races are now added to the mix, Worgen for the Alliance, and the Goblins for the Horde. Each of these races have their own unique story on how they joined the Horde and Alliance and will have players old and new wanting to play these races to see their unique abilities and /dance as well as /silly. The stories of both the Worgen and the Goblins involve leaving their homeland with the help of the their respective factions aiding in their escape.

There is a new system known as the Guild Level system, Guild Levels range from 1-25 and Guilds can go up in level by gaining guild achievements, completing raids, and participating in battlegrounds. Guild members will also have their own way of leveling up in the guild by gaining reputation in the guild. Players can gain guild reputation by completing quests and the higher your guild level and guild rep the more rewards you can purchase in the guild.

Cataclysm has also introduced a secondary profession called Archeology. The Cataclysm has unearthed ancient treasure that the Explorers’ League and the Reliquary are searching for. These relics can lead to rewards as well as gaining reputation with the faction. Artifacts can be found through quest rewards, drops and fishing.

This is a rather fine expansion and will definitely have current players, new players, as well as returning players wanting to try out the new races, see the changes in the environment, engaging in new quests,  as well as checking out the new race/class combination’s. Players will spend most their time exploring the shattered areas as well as the new areas, as well as conquering new challenges with their guilds and friends.

Overall: 9/10
