Ex Infinity Ward bosses form Respawn Entertainment and partner with EA

Ex Infinity Ward bosses Jason and Zampella  has announced the formation of Respawn Entertainment, a new studio set on duplicating the successes of Infinity Ward.

As I’m sure you know by now Activision fired both West & Zampella a month ago, accusing them of violating their contracts. West & Zampella deemed this unjust and has sued Activision.

EA is said to get exclusive distribution rights of everything that Respawn Entertainment develops and EA is funding the creation of the studio. AlsoWest and Zampella will have full control over what they create, something which is presumably what caused the problems at IW in the first place.

“Respawn Entertainment marks a fresh start for Jason and me,” Zampella, the studio’s general manager, said. “For the past decade we led a great development team and poured our hearts into creating an epic game franchise. We’re very proud of what we built  and proud that so many millions of fans enjoyed those games. Today we hope to do it all over again  open a new studio, hire a great team, and create brand new games with a new partner, EA.”

Through the EA Partners program EA will be giving Respawn Entertainmen “the support they need to hire a team and return to making incredible games,”

“We’re excited,” Jason West, now Respawn president, added. “Now that the team is in control of the games and brands , we can ensure that the fans are treated as well as they deserve.”

Update: Activision issued the following statement following the announcement of Respawn Entertainment: “This agreement comes as no surprise to Activision given the myriad of improper activities detailed in the cross-complaint filed on Friday against Jason West and Vince Zampella. We look forward to continuing to work with Infinity Ward’s deep bench of proven talent on exciting new projects.”
